Hello World! Let’s Go Shopping!
The word on the street is that there are these great new things called blogs–these days, everyone worth their salt has one. And rather than testing this maxim by running out and buying 9,140 tons of salt,* we decided to start a blog, too.
But, like most of what we do here at Become, this blog is going to be different. We’ve spent over a year and a half exploring the web, looking for all the best shopping-related information, and we’ve learned an awful lot. (Do you know what to buy to prepare for an imminent nuclear disaster? Because I sure do.) And while we’re happy to spend our time improving our research and shop results, we often find stuff that’s so cool that we hate to sit on it until people come looking for it. Sometimes it’s almost too much to bear. Once I got a phone call that went something like this:
Telemarketer: Hello, I’m calling to inform you of something irksome and usele–
Me: What do you know about buying a vacuum cleaner?
Me: You simply haven’t lived until you’ve used a vacuum with a 0.3 micron HEPA filter! It’s like cleaning your home with a beam of pure energy!
So although there are some advantages to our occasionally-misplaced exuberance, it was suggested that there might be better outlets for it. Skywriting was nixed, so here we are.
The point is, we come across a lot of cool stuff, and we’d like to share it with you, our users. This blog is going to be a regular feature of our site, and it’s not going to be a bunch of boring, inside-baseball mumbo jumbo. It’s going to be about waving our hands in the air and pointing you towards something shiny, something that tickles our bargain bone, or something dead in the road that you should swerve to avoid. Occasionally, we may toot our own horn and tell you about something new that we’ve done, but hey, we’re writing this blog for the same reason that we come to work every day: to help you be a smarter consumer.
So bookmark this page, add it to your reader, or just keep an eye on our office roof for the fireworks that we set off whenever we update. We’re going to keep you plugged in to all the smartest, raddest, whiz-bangiest stuff out there. All you have to do is read this blog.
