We all have our ugly days when we wake up feeling too fat, too slobby, too old, with too many zits or wrinkles, or finding hair where there shouldn’t be any and less hair where there should. We’ve got nothing to wear, nothing looks good, nobody loves us and hey, what’s the point. We’re just too ugly.
Some of us go back to bed to cure the uglies; some just give up and get back to eating and drinking whatever it was that made us feel fat and slobby. And then there’s those of us who go shopping. To cure my uglies, I like shopping at Nordstom. They have sympathic mirrors in their dressing rooms that don’t make me look fatter. They have nice sales ladies who don’t make me feel like a fashion failure. And, if nothing fits, I can always buy shoes there ‘cause new shoes don’t care what size you are or what your face looks like. If they feel good on your feet, you instantly feel like a million bucks.
On my last (most recent) ugly day, I came across this picture of a sphynx cat and immediately felt better about myself. Now that’s ugly! And yet, I’m sure its mother loved it very much.

My first response was to laugh hysterically at the photo. I, a lover of kitties, could never love that face. But then I thought of so many of my child clients (being a child/teen psychologist I have a lot of them), and realized so many kids feel they look like this ugly sphynx cat and my work with them is to help them appreciate the beautiful Siamese they are inside….so my heart just went out to this hairless creature. I wonder if he could use some counseling???
have you seen it’s counterpart at cuteoverload.com?
EEEK…that isn’t a cat…that is a gremlin. Don’t sprinkle water on it..or it will multiply.
