I have never been one to turn down free candy. When the good fellows over at Pure Fun decided to send us a care package of their goods we were more than happy to accept. Pure Fun is not your average confectionery company. All of their products are certified organic, Kof-K Kosher, gluten free, casein free, and vegan. I am not personally concerned about any of those things, but for many those can be serious make or break issues on anything they eat.
Honestly, I was expecting this candy to taste like much of the other health food I had eaten: tries hard, but isn’t as good as the processed stuff. I was presently surprised when, as Hyun said, “It tastes like… candy.” With a few exceptions, it really did taste pretty good. I was particularly fond of the citrus slices, which have the kick of sour that is always a good thing. While I was confused why they have every flavor of cotton candy available except cotton candy flavor, I was impressed at the taste they were able to produce. The root beer barrels were spicy, which was strange, but still tasted pretty good. For the most part, I was impressed. Also, being the socially minded person that I am, I was impressed to see that they are Fair Trade. Its always nice to eat something and not be guilty about where it came from.
Of course there is always a downside, and this companies selection is no different. The Chocolate meltdowns were disturbing to stay the least. One should not put powdery chalky chocolate inside a sweet fruit shell, it isn’t nice. I was presently enjoying a nice fruit candy when all of a sudden I was hit with a taste that could only be described as “confused chocolate.” Besides that, the selection that Pure Fun offers is very limited by the ingredients they choose to use. You probably won’t be seeing any of the creative confections that some of the big processed food companies can produce. It would be nice if they at least had a line of taffy, because I’m a man who loves his taffy (urmalmumlrumlmul). It seems that in order to stick to their mission they are stuck making candy that is often placed in the little glass bowl before you leave antique stores. I’m not saying I wouldn’t grab a piece and enjoy it, but for my daily candy needs (yes, I have daily candy needs) I need a bit more selection and creativity.
Anyway, check out their website if you’re interested.
Now, if only more companies would get the idea to send us free stuff… I’m looking at you Sony.

Meh, you all don’t appreciate organic healthiness as much as I do. I intend to sample some of these treats and most likely give a much more friendly review.
Ben Cooley (yes, the former renown Become blogger)
Its not a bad review if you’re just stating the downside of what they’re trying to do. What they do, they do well. They have quite a bit of great tasting candies. I’m just pointing out that some flaws that I see.
Not that I’m totally impressed, but this is more than I expected for when I found a link on SU telling that the info here is awesome. Thanks.
