Carnival of Shopping #15

horse.jpgLadies and gentlemen, brace yourselves for a wondrous collection of shopping related goodness. Our in-flight movie will be Weekend at Bernie’s 2—and please refrain from crossing the streams. That would be bad. Thank you.

Let us begin our journey with the acknowledgement that moms can be just as fashionable as those cool kids who sit at the popular table during lunch. An Omiru.com reader recently looked to Trisha for recommendations on a diaper handbag worthy of replacing an outdated backpack. Trisha knocked this one out of the park with a tote that is stylish and functional. Hooray for hip moms!

Of course, the first thing you’re going to want to put in your snazzy new bag is an outlet mall coupon book! Where to find such an item? See the Budget Fashionista’s recent entry on the subject to learn how to acquire those awesome coupons for free.

Stephanie of Stop the Ride suggests that clearance racks aren’t just for clothes. In fact, you can find all sorts of items that’ll make your frugal bone tingle with delight. A little bird once told me that giving the clearance rack a little love will result in the clearance rack loving you back. I’m not exactly sure what that means, nor do I want to know, but it certainly sounds nice.

Ah, fall. The time of year when the leaves turn lovely shades of red, the winds start to howl, the robots return to the earth’s surface to seek revenge for years of can opener inequality and everyone is happy. Fall is also the time of year that you should plan to travel because Fire Finance is offering $50 vouchers for flights between September and October.

You don’t necessarily have to travel to acquire nifty items from far away lands, as Cost Plus regularly imports unique items from around the world and sells them at prices that fail to make me squirm in a manner comparable to last Sunday’s unfortunate jello experiment–I’ll spare you the details. Anyway, Mark Cutler recently scoured Cost Plus and shared some of his findings for all of us to enjoy. The lights are cool, but there will always be a special place in my heart for Tiki Torches. (Right next to the garden gnomes and pink flamingos!)

Used car buyers rejoice! Wenchypoo has put together an rather informative article with numerous tips that are sure to minimize the pain of the car buying experience while also saving you a sizable chunk of cash.

Speaking of saving money, Toe recently acquired a bunch of name brand clothes and only paid $23! Unfortunately such deals are unavailable to most of us, given that this was the result of a Phsar Toul Tompong shopping trip. Regardless, her entry describing the Cambodian shopping environment is an absolutely fascinating read! It’s always interesting to hear how the shopping experience differs from place to place.

SavingAdvice.com notes that many consumers have difficulty with the math behind the increasingly common double discounts, resulting in less than expected savings. Even the other side occasionally makes mistakes.

Many have become concerned about the use of sulfates in cosmetics. Tonic Gifts provides quite a bit of background information on the subject and addresses relevant concerns in a recent blog post.

I fully expect The Knack’s My Sharona to remain swirling through my brain for at least 5 days. That’s okay though, it’s a small price to pay for Suzanne’s lovely post discussing a fun new drill. I most certainly appreciate her fondness for power tools and all things bendy.

Soon to be singing,
Sean
