Let me tell you a story about my first experience playing paintball.

A few of my college friends got their hands on group discount tickets at a local paintball field. Me and 9 other newbs (first timers) and 4 intermediate players wore our baggiest clothes and any possible padding that we could find. One of the intermediate players was used to playing airsoft, so he wore his airsoft vest to protect his core. We learned the rules and split up the intermediate players equally on two teams – and started to play.

The rush off “the break” and running to hide was actually really exciting! I felt like I was playing hide-and-go-seek again. I lasted about 3 games by being shot in the paintball mask, my hand and my leg. The next game was my “you play like a girl” game. I got shot by one of the intermediate players, directly in my neck – and I cried!
When you speak with any paintball players, they will all tell you the worst places to get shot is:
- neck
- head
- hand
bandana
I will be truthful with you, it felt like the paintball drilled a hole right through my skin. I sat out the next game with tears in my eyes, applying the cold water bottle on my poor wound, while I blamed the bandana for not covering my whole neck. Even the padded airsoft vest would not have helped me there. But I played the rest of the day and had lots of fun shooting the people out that shot me!
Tip: Wear two bandanas around your neck, not just one.
