Canon Powershot vs. Panasonic Lumix

It’s been a while now that I have been using my old but trusty Canon Powershot SD500, so the other day I decided to buy I new one!

I always like to have my camera with me, to be able to take spontaneous pictures whenever I am wandering around the city or whenever I might be having a night out partying with friends, so it has to be a compact size that I can carry everywhere.

With all the choices out there, I certainly did my homework and I can tell you that Canon and Panasonic are the best on the market for compact camera sizes coupled with high quality picture capability.

The PowerShot SX200 has a compact body, a powerful 12x zoom lens, beginning at a wide 28mm, tackles landscape shots or distant subjects with equal effectiveness and 12.1 megapixel resolution.

Canon’s, 4-stop optical Image Stabilizer technology, combats the blur caused by camera shake -  even at the telephoto end of the zoom range and in low-light situations.

I also tried the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX35K which also has compact body, 12x zoom, 10 megapixel and is simply an amazing product as well.

However, it was he 25-300 mm wide angle that won my heart! Panasonic pushed the concept a little further with a zoom which goes down to the very wide-angle position of 25mm, and increases even more the range of the Leica Vairo-Elmar 12x zoom to offer a stunning 25-300mm!

Since the summer is coming up and I’m planning on taking some scuba diving lessons while on holiday. I also bought a waterproof camera case to be able to take pictures underwater.

So rather than being indecisive, I decided to take both and plan to give the Canon powershot to my mom for Mother Day’s.
