What Makes a Modern Kitchen Faucet?

We hear the word bandied around all the time, but what does it really mean to be “Modern”? When it comes to modern kitchen faucets, it apparently means clean lines, a simple design, and stainless steel and brass.

Just take a look at the Blanco Purus II kitchen faucet, which is touted for the “modern” arc shape of the faucet, and its stainless steel finish. The entire faucet is crafted from metal, from the faucet head, to the pillar, all the way down to it’s metallic handle, and geometric design of the faucet makes it look like something off the set of a science fiction movie from the ’80s.

Another kitchen faucet that supports this definition of “modern” is the Santec Penza Pull-Out kitchen faucet (even the name seems modern, but maybe that’s just me). The Santec Penza shares the same design elements as the Blanco Purus, like the simple, single lever design and the stainless steel finish, but replaces the rounded curves of the Purus with straight lines that make it seem sturdy and industrial.

A faucet design that challenges this definition is the Modern Pull-Out Spiral Kitchen Faucet. Like the other modern kitchen faucets, the Modern Pull-Out features a geometric design with a stainless, but it also has a distinctive spiral design, and spring loaded hose, and has a 360 degree rotating base that is extendable up to 30 inches. The many tubes and springs surrounding this faucet make it look organic, and you can almost see this faucet coming alive, like some sort of Transformer.

So it looks like there may be no hard-and-fast rules when it comes to designating a kitchen faucet as modern, but there are some general trends we can observe. So if you’re looking for a faucet that’s clean and simple, or are just a big fan of stainless steel, have a look at a modern kitchen faucet.
