Revisiting Cordless Phones

Cordless PhonesIn this day and age of ubiquitous cell phones and smart phones, having a regular phone almost seems quaint. Still, even with the proliferation of cells, it’s still nice to have a plain old cordless phone as a backup, just in case you lose your cell phone or accidentally drop it into some water– something that’s happened to me on more than one occasion!

If you haven’t looked at a cordless phone in a while, most models come standard with a cordless headset, wireless docking station, answering machine (using either a cassette or memory), speakerphone, and caller ID. A good example of the typical cordless phone is the GE Cordless Phone, which has all these features and more, and is quite affordable. This is a simple phone that’s perfect for home use.

If you’re looking for a cordless phone that packs a little more power, you might want to check out the Engenius Durafon. The Durafon provides 6 hours of talk time and 50 hours of standby, so you don’t have to keep recharging it. The range of the Durafon is pretty astounding as well, reaching up to 12 floors or 250,000 square feet. With presets for a 30-number speed dial, and the option to expand the system to up to 9 headsets, the Durafon is a great cordless phone if you plan on using it in an office setting.

These two phones are the extremes when it comes to cordless phones, so there are plenty of different phones that lie in between the two in terms of feature-set, including those with other options such as wall-hang mounts and removable batteries, so make sure to know what you’re looking for when shopping around. With a little effort, you’ll be able to find the perfect companion to your cell phone.
