If you want to be done with your Holiday shopping early this year we can help you a bit. We’ve chosen the top 5 GPS devices for every budget:
- Best high-end GPS navigation system – Garmin Nuvi 1690 is the latest from the company. Different from their previous Nuvi models, the 1690 is two way connected. Called nuLink, this service gets you features such as local search, weather info, flight status, currency exchange rates, traffic (of course), and more. The only downside with nuvi 1690 is that it doesn’t have speech recognition feature (not to be confused with text-to-speech) which we’d expect from a GPS navigation system that costs around $500.
- Best mid level GPS navigation system – Garmin nĂ¼vi 855 used to be a high-end GPS navigation system. We can only call it mid level because the prices have gone down so much. Here are some of the many features $250 will get you on the Garmin nuvi 855: speech recognition, text-to-speech, lane assist, MSN Direct services, multi-destination routing, and a big 4.3″ screen. We only wish it had bluetooth too…
- Best entry level GPS navigation system – Magellan Maestro 3210 will only set you back $81 but will still get you everything you need from a GPS navigation system. It has a 3.5″ screen, 6 Million searchable points of interests, and even multi-destination routing.
- Best GPS backtracker – Bushnell GPS BackTrack. For about $50 Bushnell’s GPS backtracker can literally be the best investment you can make before a camping/hiking trip. What this device does is to let you point your location and help you get back to it when you’re lost. This particular model can remember up to 3 location, and runs 2 AAA batteries. It is so small, so you never have to worry about the extra weight with this device.,
- Best GPS data logger – Qstarz BT-Q1300S. If you’re looking for portability, lightweight, and style then Qstarz BT-Q1300S has to be it. The “S” at the end for sports because this version ships with an armband. But anyhow, this little device is so powerful. It packs bluetooth to pair up with a GPS-less device, or it can do the same with a simple USB cable. It can record up to 200000 waypoints, can run for up to 12 hours, and track 66 satellites at once. It is so sensitive that even GPS signals as weak as -165dBm can be locked onto.
Happy shopping!
