A touch o’ Irish spirit for St. Patrick’s Day
As some say, everybody is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day, and with the holiday just around the corner, get in the spirit and spruce up your house with St. Patrick’s Day decorations. Here are some quick and easy ways to Irish up any home in celebration of the annual historical feast day.
Go green – literally! Did you know that Seattle paints the traffic stripes of its St. Patrick’s Day parade route green and the Chicago River is dyed green year after year for the holiday? To bring a touch o’ green to your home, balloons are always a party essential, and gold or green balloons are an easy way to decorate. Hang bunches of balloons around the house or arrange the balloons to make a lofty table centerpiece.
Think shamrock. For more green trimmings, think shamrock, the classic symbol of Ireland. An ivy or shamrock wreath hung at the front door will get your guests in the spirit as soon as they walk in, and shamrock lights are a fun way to light up the house – hang them by the entrance or around the window.
Another popular tradition to go green for St. Patrick’s Day: Green beer! Add a couple of drops of green food coloring to a pint of your favorite beer – light-colored Ambers or pale ales work best, and ginger ale is a good alternative.
Pot o’ gold: Offer your guests little pieces of gold with gold-foil-wrapped chocolate coins. Put them in bags as a party favor, or scatter these across the dinner table or fill them in bowls for easy access.
Bring a bit o’ Irish spirit to your home for St. Patrick’s Day with these party ideas! Sláinte (cheers)!
