5 eco-friendly summer activities for your child

childrens cycle

During the summer vacation instead of allowing your children to sit idly in front of the television or computer, encourage them to be active. Involve them in the following eco-friendly activities to connect  them with nature. These activities will also educate them in the fast depleting resources of the planet and how they can help in preservation.

Gardening
Hand out some children’s gardening tools and guide your little ones to enjoy the experience of getting dirty while digging in the soil and sowing a plant of their choice. At the same time, tell them about organic food. Through the process of gardening they will realize that while it only takes a short while to consume resources, it takes a long time to develop them.

Stargazing
On a clear night, stargaze with your children. Tell them about the stars, different constellations, the solar system and how earth is the only known planet to be inhabited because of its conducive atmosphere. Let them know about the adverse effects of change in the ecological balance and pollution on the environment.

Craft activities
Take old shoe boxes and decorate them to make keepsake boxes. Old newspapers can be painted to make wrapping papers and denim pants or shorts can be converted into cool handbags with a bit of sewing. Encourage your children to come up with innovative recycling ideas and explain the importance of recycling.

Cycling
Ask your kids to hop onto their childrens cycle and go on a bike ride. Explain how cycling saves the natural resources and helps them keep fit.

Camping
Camping near a stream in a tent will bring your kids closer to nature. Explain to them that the freshwater reserves of the world are decreasing and how it is essential not to waste water. Teach them to live in the camp without littering the place. Don’t forget to carry eco water bottles with you!

Make sure those tools are well maintained with something like the Chicago electric power tools cleaner.
