Teething safety tips for your baby
Parenting a little baby is a great experience. Seeing a child grow fills a parent’s with a lot of hope and anticipation. Your child’s development starts at a very early age. Teething is probably the first most obvious development in your little baby. Though teething can be a very exciting time for new parents, it can cause a lot of discomfort and pain to the little one. Teething is the period in which the infants’ teeth grow and break out of the gums. This usually happen at around 4 – 5 months. As your baby begins to teeth, she might show a drop in appetite, become fussier or even have fever and diarrhea. She may also drool excessively and bite almost anything that she can lay her hands on.
When your baby is teething, she will have a very high chewing reflex. You might keep handing her stuff to chew on as it soothes her off her discomfort. But, not all things are safe for her to chew on. You can’t avoid the timeless teething battle. However, here are few tips that have helped me and my baby sail through this period and will surely help you provide your teething little one with some joy and relief.
- The most important of all is to recognize your baby’s signs and symptoms of teething. Most parents neglect these symptoms if their baby is not yet six months old. Teething can occur as early as three months hence be mindful to notice the teething symptoms in your little one.
- To help your baby with her discomfort you can give her a teething ring. Cold is good for your teething baby hence, teething rings that can be chilled in the refrigerator are great to soothe your baby’s pain. Water filled rubber teething rings are also good if your baby wants to chew something. Buy a good baby teething toy or a bunch baby teethers to make your baby happy. Most of these are in plastic with liquid inside. Don’t make the poor kid chew on the hand rails of your Evenflo baby stroller. That’s just mean.
- If your baby has started solids, try giving her frozen carrots or banana. This will aid in relieving her pain and discomfort to a great extent along with providing her share of nutrition.
- Massaging your baby’s gums with your clean finger can also alleviate her pain.
- As your baby is in pain, she might demand more of your attention and care. Extra loving goes a long way in providing relief at the time of teething. Cuddle your baby as much as you can and show her all your love.
Teething toys though are a great tool to soothe your teething baby, be sure to check if they are safe for your baby’s use. Check for any pointed edges that may harm your little one before you make the purchase. keep these toys clean and sterilize them before use to avoid any infection to your child.
