World Cup 2010: Johannesburg: South Africa vs. Mexico
With the world cup right around the corner there is excitement in the air in streets of South Africa. Being the host nation for the FIFA 2010 world cup, they get to play the opening game and kick off a month long festival of football. The first match will be played on the 11th of June between South Africa and Mexico. Mexico and South Africa are two very contrasting teams. The Mexican team undoubtedly has the advantage of playing in more world cups that South Africa. With the recent signing of Javier Hernandez by Manchester United it just goes to show that the Mexican football team is all about flair. The South Africans on the other hand are the underdogs for this game. They may not have the flair that the Mexicans have, but they have the necessary work rate and physical presence on the pitch to cause the Mexicans problems. The South African team consists of just a handful of players who play in top European leagues. Among them Steven Pienaar is undoubtedly the player to watch out for. He has had a great season with English football club Everton FC and is among the most wanted players in the English Premier league. Apart from him Benni McCarthy is one more player who could do well for South Africa. On his day he could cause problems to any defense.
