Key fall investments for the chic working woman

The September issues of fashion magazines are out and now is the time to start thinking about the look you’d like to achieve this fall and winter. The start of fall is a great time to revamp your look, and after seeing what buyers have chosen from the fall runways shows back in February, the current trends don’t seem all that difficult to attain.
Separates, rather than dresses, were huge on the runways. Thoughtful outfits can be created easily from pieces you probably already have in your closet such as trousers, blazers, blouses and knee-length skirts. It’s the details and color combinations that will make older things fresh. Also, investing in a few key pieces will keep you current.
- Camel colored coats, trousers and jackets are in all the magazines and they never go out of style. After so many years of edgy black saturating the fashion world, this upcoming cool season has lightened up. Mixing neutrals like grays, creams, browns and camel is a no-brainer. Pull out your gray slacks, a cream blouse, and throw on a camel coat and you’re good to go. Cozy thick sweater knits are also back in a big way, even in skirts and dresses.
- Leopard print details seem to be the biggest trend for fall but you don’t have to feel overwhelmed or overwhelming in leopard. A slim leopard belt over a thin sweater and pencil skirt, leopard flats or a leopard bag are inexpensive little ways to update an outfit you already have. Leopard is one of those rare prints that goes with everything.
- Messenger style bags with longer cross-body straps will free up your shoulder. Lower comfortable heels are working their way back in after so many platforms. Scarves and gloves in pops of deep rich colors like mustard, navy and red are also easy ways to update your wardrobe.
- Lastly, the easiest way to update a classic outfit is statement jewelry – the bigger the better. Jeweled cuffs, bold necklaces, and cocktail rings for day are great ways to look more polished and put together. A simple t-shirt can be transformed with a colorful bib necklace. Show off a flashy cuff by rolling up the sleeves of a white button-up.
The economy has been rough for many, so I’m thankful that this fall, I can easily stay on trend with most of the items I already own by simply mixing warm neutrals and adding a few fun items to my wardrobe!
