Tips for an authentic Victorian Halloween party
With the abundance of Halloween decorations, throwing a fun and festive shindig is a snap. However, if you’d like to up the ante with some seriously spooky decor, go for a Victorian gothic theme. Finding and creating decor for a Victorian theme is not as intimidating as it sounds. A few simple home accessories could turn your living room into a scene right out of Haunted Mansion (and NOT the Eddie Murphy version).
Anything antique and vintage is key to pulling off your overall look. Start by scouring your local antique stores, second-hand outlets and yard sales for antique picture frames, telephones or pocket watches. Chances are you may have a few things handy in your own garage like old leather-bound books or old mason jars you can fill with fake creepy crawlies.
A few things you may want to shop for can include faux antique decorative bowls like the one pictured above left. You could fill this with assorted candy, but can keep it authentic and spooky by draping fake spider web over the bowl. Turn your furniture into working props by covering them with stained canvas to make the room look abandoned and decaying.
