Catch baseball playoff fever
The dog days of summer are gone, and with them went the hopes of many baseball fans and players as their teams’ playoff chances died. But that’s part of what’s so special about October baseball. It’s exclusive. October belongs to the fortunate few whose season-long grind finally paid off with a chance at a handful of playoff wins, or for the truly privileged, a World Series ring.
And while the postseason in any sport is huge, this time of year is special for followers of “America’s pastime.” Maybe it’s the 162 games, the long regular season grind, and the fact that just eight teams make it into the hunt for a World Series title. For whatever reason, there’s a certain hysteria surrounding this time of year, and some folks take it more seriously than others. Just check out this hilarious adaptation of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’,” dedicated to the San Francisco Giants’ playoff run (snagged from YouTube) that was created by a fan called Ashkon:
October is also the time when kids all over the world look at the game’s biggest players on its biggest stage and dream of their own possibilities. There is nothing like playoff baseball to spark the imagination. After all, who fantasizes about coming up to bat in the bottom of the ninth, with two outs, and two strikes….in the first game of the season? Anyone who’s ever played the game knows, it’s game seven of the World Series, and one hit is all that stands between the batter and becoming a legend.
Maybe your little ballplayer dreams about delivering that strikeout pitch, or even catching it. With the success of the Giants’ young slugging catcher, Buster Posey, kids all over will be donning the gear and thinking about calling that last at bat and raising their arms high to celebrate their team’s success. If this is the dream of a youngster you know, they’re going to need to start studying, practicing a catcher’s squat, and to start getting comfortable in some youth catchers gear.
Store your gear in an easton team gear bag.
