A blog review: Michelle’s Stitch & Paint Spot

I recently stumbled across a blog called Michelle’s Stitch & Paint Spot. This blog is written by an artist named Michelle from North Carolina. And she is a creative lady who makes gorgeous pieces of original art! For example, she has a lovely piece called Matters of Art, which is largely made from recycled materials or trash. It’s great to see would-be trash evolve into beautiful art. Another cool post features Christmas card ornaments! You can check out her blog for the tutorial and learn how to make ornaments for this Christmas season.
Find her lovely Christmas card ornaments here: http://stitchandpaint.blogspot.com/2010/01/christmas-card-ornament-tutorial.html
One of the best things about her blog is being able to look through her stuff for your own creative artistic adventures. I’ve been inspired to make little fabric pouches to wrap my friend’s Christmas presents!
Here is an interview of Michelle in case you want to learn more about this lovely lady:
1. Why did you start “Michelle’s Stitch and Paint Spot?”
“I started “Michelle’s Stitch and Paint Spot” in early 2007 as a place for me to gather my thoughts about my artwork, to share my work with others, and to gain feedback. At the time I was beginning to merge my loves of both painting and quilting, and my blog was my spot to share.”
2. What’s your favorite thing about blogging?
“I enjoy the conversational aspect of blogging and always appreciate comments.”
3. Do you have a favorite project/craft? Why is it your favorite?
“Recently I have begun to specialize in creative reuse. I am using my creativity and skills to turn would-be-trash items into useful and beautiful creations. It is very exciting to transform typically discarded items into art.”
4. What’s your next project going to be?
“That is a good question! I am currently working with computer chips and small glass tiles. I am also using fabric selvage to make things such as cell phone cases. If I can gather up more selvage, I would like to make something a little larger, perhaps a handbag.”
5. What’s the best advice ever given to you (with regard to crafting, blogging, or anything else)?
“Without a doubt, the best advice I was ever given was to ask myself “what if …”. This phrase transformed my art. I was able to step out of my comfort zone and try new things, knowing that if the results didn’t please me, I could repeat the question and continue on.”
6. Any recommendations for people who want to start their own blog or get into arts and crafts?
“Have confidence in yourself and your creative abilities. We are all unique and as long as you create from your heart, your art will reflect your own individuality. Don’t compare yourself to others. You are not them, and they are not you. If we all had the same skills, life would be very dull.”
I highly recommend checking out the gorgeous photos and charming crafts in Michelle’s blog!
