Best of the Web: Style Blogs of the Week no. 25
Welcome to the first Best of the Web: Style Blogs of the Week of 2010! Now that Christmas and New Year’s are behind us, it seems like a humdrum has settled in. The winter chill is chillier, the days are shorter, and my neighbors are taking down the last of the string lights on the porch. If you live on the dark side of the globe, be sure to pop vitamin D and avoid Seasonal Affective Disorder, and cheer up with this week’s lovely Best of the Web picks.
For all of you who’ve committed as your New Year 2011 resolution to draw more (like me!), this featured blogger will definitely give a dose of artistic inspiration. Meet Tuesday Bassen, whose colorful sketches and more polished 2D works are executed with humor and quirkiness. This Minneapolis-based illustrator tells us:
“I started my blog as a vehicle for posting progress on illustration pieces that are shown on my website (tuesdaybassen.net), but it has since evolved to include more personal things like mixes, my sketchbooks, and photos of my apartment. Hopefully, it serves as good communication between myself and those who are interested in my work and gives insight into my process and personality as an illustrator.”
It’s easy to get caught in the whirlwind of trends, but blogger Emma Pavitt of Emma aime sticks to her guns. Our second featured blogger definitely stands out from the crowd with her love of fashion from the past.
This style and lifestyle blog awes readers with vintage fashions from the 40s and 50s; offers opinions on books and old movies; revels in burlesque, “housewifery” (sewing, cooking, and the like), tattoos, travel and more – namely, all of Emma’s favorite things!
