Brandspotting: Zoo York
What is Zoo York?
Basically, this is a skateboarding inspired lifestyle brand came in to existence in 1993 when OG skateboarders Rodney Smith, Eli Morgan Gessner and Adam Schatz teamed up together to run business. The brand took its inspiration from New York City’s rapidly evolving skateboarding, hip-hop and graffiti scenes to produce a variety of products – skateboards, clothing and footwear – that truly reflected the dark and gritty culture of the NYC. Zoo York started off with manufacturing decks and t-shirts and slowly transformed itself in to a brand that offered a whole range of street wear collection marked by military surplus and urban-athletic styling.
Zoo York today has evolved as a globally recognized brand that continues to be heavily influenced by skateboarding, graffiti, hip-hop, punk and everything in between. This Manhattan based brand offers a wide range of clothing and footwear for both men and women. The Zoo crew comprises of original NYC graffiti artists, designers, musicians, new and old school skateboarders and some of the biggest names in the BMX and surf communities.
While Zoo York shoes are particularly great for skateboarding, you can wear them as a casual pair of sneakers too: the label’s canvas sneakers look very easy and comfortable. The soft canvas fabric is very convenient for wearing all day long and this skate sneaker is not made just for the skateboard.
Skateboarding and graffiti are the characteristic elements of the NYC and if you are a New Yorker by spirit, Zoo York is the brand for you!
