Three swimsuits with a retro 50s flair

Close your eyes for a minute and imagine a scene from a movie of the 50’s with an actress, for instance Liz Taylor or Grace Kelly, in a swimsuit. You are most likely to visualize a lady looking elegant yet sensuous in a not-so-revealing swimwear. This season, various designers such as Betsey Johnson, Tommy Hilfiger, Marc Jacobs, Kenneth Cole and Michael Kors, amongst others, have created swimsiuts that are inspired by the design elements of the 1950’s, such as skirted bottoms, sweetheart necklines, ruched sides, halter necks and retro prints. Here are three swimsuits with a retro flair that I personally like.
- Jantzen pretty pin dot top and bottom:The red and white polka dot halter top and high waist bottom will transport you instantly into the 50’s era! The top has a sweetheart neckline, molded cups and comfy neck ties.
Coco Rave swimdress swimsuit:This gingham print bandeau swimsuit has shirring and a ruffled hem. It also has a detachable strap. Just ensure that your hair has few curls because with this flattering swimdress, you’re sure to look like a 50’s pin-up girl!
- Tommy Hilfiger castaway one-piece swimsuit: Inspired by the nautical theme, this swimsuit has been designed to create the illusion of an hourglass figure with its stripes and side ruching. It can be worn as a halter neck or as a bandeau. Accessorize with a wide brimmed hat to get an uber cool retro look.
Swimsuits inspired by the 1950’s era will be considered to be to be hip this season. Celebrities such as Taylor Swift and Jessica Alba have been seen in retro swimsuits. To get the retro look, opt for swimsuits that provide greater coverage, such as a one-piece or alternatively a two piece with a high waisted bottom. Design elements like shirring, polka dots, feminine ruffles or bows also lend a 50’s look. Have fun going back in time!
