A blog interview: Rock my palate
Food blogs are one in a million on the internet so when I find a good one to follow, it’s definitely something to be shared. Raised in an Americanized Asian family, Kristen Werner started her culinary adventure 11 years ago, sampling everything from traditional Asian cuisines to raw foods (mainly seafood). Her penchant for choosing discreet but tasty joints makes her blog a must-follow for foodies living in the South Bay.

1. When did you start your blog and what inspired you to do it?
I started my food blog as a writing exercise in May of 2010, and it’s turned my passion for adventure and food into a lifestyle.
2. Who are some of your favorite food writers?
Some of my favorite food writers are David Lebovitz (an American expat living in Paris, former pastry chef at Chez Panisse), and Tomo from TomoStyle. Both have a unique way of telling the story, including the food and making my mouth water, all while being accessible.
3. What is your must-have cooking tool?
I could not live without my Wustof 8″ Chef’s knife. It’s perfectly balanced and sharp enough to slice your finger to the bone without you feeling it. (I don’t recommend that)
4. What would your death-row meal be?
Assuming my jail cell is somewhat near water, I would request sashimi handpicked and cut by Chef Nozawa and maybe okonomiyaki and ramen.
5. Anything else you would like your readers to know?
It’s important to remember that being a ‘foodie’ doesn’t necessarily mean being a glutton with an expendable budget. As a single mom, it’s important for me to make sure that what I pay for a meal out is worth it. A lot of the time it is, but there are the times where it’s simply not. That can really change the dining experience.
Thanks Kristen for being a part of our feature and keep up the great work at Rock My Palate!
