Make holiday cookies at home with the kids
I know from babysitting experience that watching kids on rainy days when you can’t go outside can really drive you nuts. It really helps to have some indoor activities planned to help you keep your sanity and at the same time keep the kids entertained for a few hours. Why not make some cookies?!
Making cookies is a fun way to keep the kids busy and involved in an activity. Yeah right, what about all of that sugar? Just don’t let them have more than two cookies each! You can pick out some pre-made cookie dough from the super market or prepare your favorite cookie dough recipe with the kids.
Then let them play with their cookies. Get some assorted cookie cutters. Maybe try some Halloween or Thanksgiving themed cookie cutters and a few basic shapes too. Have some multicolored sprinkles and candy that they can use to make faces or decorations on their cookies. Use your best judgment with this. The more candy there is, the busier it will keep them, but they will eat more too.
Let them do all of the work to keep busy. Let them arrange the cookies on the sheet, and preheat the oven. I recommend that an adult actually places and removes the cookies from the oven. You don’t want anyone to get burned! While the cookies are baking, have the kids do clean up. If they say they don’t want to clean up, then I guess you’ll just have to eat all of the cookies yourself!
