Best of the web: Be @ Home #53

Happy Wednesday readers! Welcome to a new series of Best of the Web: Be @ Home this New Year. The quote “Creativity requires the courage to let go of certainties” is aptly demonstrated by the bloggers of this week. Creativity teaches us to trust our instincts and have the courage to deal with the fact that some ideas may be wrong, than to be always right by having no ideas at all. Enjoy these featured bloggers ranging from a food lover with creative recipes to someone who values happiness the most. Leaving you with this note to read on.

The Cooking Vent
” This blog is my creation that was started as a way to share one of my passions in life – cooking. I don’t know about you, but when life gets crazy, I cook. It’s the best way for me to vent after a long stressful day. This space is dedicated to creative recipes – that don’t require a culinary degree to make, step by step directions with photos – for those who learn best with visuals, and a little bit about life as well – for those who just don’t cook.” Enjoy! – Rebekah for The Cooking Vent blog.

Unplanned Trip to Holland
“There are many, many blogs written by parents of special needs children. Some blogs only speak in glowing terms about what having special needs children entails. They talk about blessings from God, living among angels, and all that their special needs children teach them. Much to my mother’s dismay, this isn’t that kind of blog! This is a true life, no holds barred, graphic and gritty view of living life with autism. This journey is not for the meek and mild, or the faint of heart. This life is a loud, stim-y, sensory overloaded life. It is MY life. And I love it (most of the time!) – but I am not afraid to tell it like it is. Read on to learn about our unplanned trip to Holland.” – Kelly for Unplanned trip to Holland.

Cottage 1945
“Cottage 1945 became the name for my blog after moving to our cottage style house built in 1945. I live on a farm in Nebraska with my husband, two children, a black lab, four Blue-faced Leicester sheep, a horse, and a few barn cats. I love to decorate my home, crochet, knit, sew, garden, and farm. My blog reflects all of those things. Cottage 1945 is all about finding the beauty in everyday life.” – Cynthia for Cottage 1945.

An Urban Cottage
An Urban Cottage is a blog that revolves around the renovation of an 1842 Greek Revival Cottage outside Boston. While the homeowner is restoring the exterior to be as historically accurate as possible, he takes license inside to create eclectic spaces with an interesting mix of antiques and modern furnishings. The blog often takes a humorous approach to DIY projects, cooking and the New England lifestyle. The home will appear in the upcoming Better Homes & Gardens New Cottage Style book scheduled for release in June 2012. – Steve for An Urban Cottage blog.

-Chase Beautiful Things-
“My blog is about happiness. It’s my interpretation of a life lived with rigor. It’s my candid way of sharing positivity through the things that makes me happy: beauty, love, music, arts and literature. I believe in the power of a smile, how it can somehow somewhere turn things around and possibly uplift and inspire those who need it most. More than leaving a mark in the world, my site is all about establishing connection, building friendship and breaking down walls that divide our world through my preferred common ground: happiness.” – Kumi for Chase Beautiful Things blog.

Natural Wonders..
“I started my blog as a way to help my Jewelry shops and gain exposure. But I did not want to do it all about jewelry, so I picked my next passion which is natural healing, magical herbs and my current daily mission, astral projection and much more. My blog is an array of topics and info including but not limited to: Herbs, Natural Medicine, astral projection, homeopathy, healthy recipes for food and body issues, you just never know what might hit me! It’s very exciting.”- Sherri Lynn Herrmann for Natural wonders blog.

Cherry Red Quilter
“I started my blog just over a year ago to give me a place to share what I was doing with like minded people. My blog is mostly about my life of sewing with a few recipes thrown it to spice it up. Being part of the blogging world is like being part of a lovely friendly quilt group. I have recently started a spin off blog, Aussie Hero Quilts, where I encourage others to sew quilts and laundry bags for our Aussie soldiers.” –Jan-Maree from Cherry Red Quilter.
Cush & Nooks
“Cush & Nooks is a place for me to share some of the things that inspire me and make me smile. I’m passionate about color, pattern, and interior design that reflects it’s owner’s personality. I like to surround myself with things that make me happy – beauty with a little touch of quirkiness.” -Victoria Bibby for Cush and Nooks blog
I am planning on implementing a magazine storage solution for the books and magazines sitting around. And finding a place to store all my things which don’t have a designated spot is my New Year resolve. What’s your new project theme for this New Year? We would love to hear from you.

Steve has a nose for doing what is right for his house. He understands the word “edit” and how to create a sense of place. Thumbs up on your choice.
