Must-know facts about cycling

Cycling and general bike riding have been a stable of American society for generations. Learning how to ride a bike is big part of almost everyone’s childhood and most Americans ride a bike at least once in their lives. Despite this, there are a few facts about cycling that few can give a complete answer for, so check out these three must-know facts about cycling.
Helmet laws
There is no standard national bicycle helmet law, and generally, most helmet laws are local rather than state-wide. In fact, 13 states do not have any helmet laws, while Washington is the only state to require every rider to wear a helmet. In most states, kids bicycle helmets are required, and no matter your age, it is wise to strap on a helmet as bicycle crashes and accidents are impossible to predict.
Why do people wear skin-tight outfits?
Other than the helmet, cycling shorts are the most important piece of apparel for avid riders. The reason for the shorts, and in many cases outfits, being skin-tight are that they provide more comfort the rider by reducing friction and having more padding in strategically placed padding. If you plan on picking up cycling as an activity, it is wise to also pick up a pair or two of some cycling shorts otherwise you make experience the uncomfortable consequence of chaffing and rashes.
Bicycles cost significantly less than cars
When it comes to using your bike versus using your car, many understand that it is cheaper to use your bike, but how much cheaper? According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, Americans spend around 18% of their annual income on transportation; however, the average annual operating cost of a bike is only $308 as compared to the whooping $8,220 cost for a car. The math is simple: use your bicycle more and save money!
Now that you have got these facts down, be sure to spread them to your friends and loved ones!
