Best of the Web no. 60
Look out! Wow, what was that? Oh, just another amazing edition of Best of the Web, brought to you by Pocketchange. We’ve had our internet monkeys (yes they’re a thing) hard at work, scouring the far corners and undiscovered reaches of this digital realm, and they’ve come back from their expedition with a fabulous array of blogs for you to feast your eyes upon. So what are you waiting for? Have at it!
“LALA dex press was conceived after a reluctance to graduate from college and lose the support system I had in the art department. I found a new group post-graduation, but decided to extend my circle to the web. I write about letterpress printing, vintage finds, yummy vegetarian food, my garden, running, my rescued dog, being a native Angelino living in a small southern town, and whatever else strikes my fancy.”
“My blog is a mix of art and life and everything in between… I share my love of art journaling and mixed media… and more recently drawings of my girls along with little written tales of their adventures and stories… I am constantly inspired by the wonderful words of others and include a quote in every blog post and often in my work… I guess you could say that sharing what is special to me is really the essence…”
“And This is What She Said, is all about a colorful girl trying to remain completely optimistic in this life. Rasha, the writer of the site, recently graduated from ASU not long ago and is now working in the Social work field. Rasha blogs about her life, her fabulous boyfriend, and just about everything else. Stop on by!”
“Like many artists, I started my blog as a way to reach out to the world. Those who like my work can see my latest paintings and stay updated on shows that I’m in and classes that I’m teaching. There are financial benefits to blogging, but even better is the way you can get to know people who live across town or on the other side of the world. I’ve taught workshops with artists and sold paintings to art lovers who I never would have met if I didn’t blog. I try to keep my blog posts short and to the point. It’s just about painting.”
“My blog is a record of my small oil paintings, figures, landscapes and still life, usually completed in two or three days. I hold a deep regard for the beauty of everyday existence, and try and show that in my work. For many years my habit was to spend two or even three months on one painting, trying to create an image without flaws. I’ve begun to realize that painting is not about the absence of flaws- painting is about being fully awake, and fully aware of a larger world outside yourself. At best it is an act of spiritual renewal.”
“Hi, I’m Jessica! My blog, Kissin’ Krafts, was started a few years ago. I found that the blogging world was full of unlimited inspiration and knew I had to join in! I started to make handmade paper goods about 3 years ago! My main focus is card-making and handmade wedding invitations. I use Kissin’ Krafts to showcase the cards/projects that I make for challenges or design teams that I am a member of. I have been inspired by so many artists out there and hopefully can inspire someone else to explore their creative side.”
“Hi I’m Sian and I blog at Sian Lile Makes where I write about art and craft, books, films, music, cooking vegan food and my day to day life. I love sewing and have been recently been getting really into patchwork and quilting… so much so that I often dream about it (i’ve also been learning to crochet and knit, but only dreamt about crocheting so I think that is where my calling lies). By day I run art and craft session for children, and blogging and creating helps me switch off from my day job. I love reading blogs and making new blog friends, so please swing by and say hi.x”
“Life Unscripted is my personal blog that I use to share photos and thoughts with family and friends. I am a girl who has lots of interests and loves deeply and passionately. My blog is my space to share a little bit about my interests and loves. I think the best way to sum it up is this: a little bit of married life; a great deal of Henry, our Westie; a bit of scrapbooking; a bit of crafting; a bit of sewing; a tad bit of fashion; and a small bit of teaching high school art. The ups, downs, and in between of my life’s journey.”
“The Hip + Urban Girl’s Guide is a lifestyle website that writes daily on food, travel, style, event and life advice. We love to share our finds and inspire others who are looking for cool places to hang and fun places to travel to. We’re stealth – like your secret online concierge.”
“Art Play Today is all about encouraging a playful approach to creativity! Inspiration, technique, tutorials and tips are just a few of the things you’ll find at Art PlayToday. Artist Kristen Watts shares her artwork along with insights into her personal journey as an emerging new artist.”
“As my blog name suggests, I am truly a hobby hopper who cannot stick to one particular hobby and keep hopping from one to another. Surprisingly crochet seems to be putting an end to it. Recently I have started designing and selling patterns and I don’t see myself hobby hopping anymore. ”
