Make your Fourth of July memorable with patriotic attire
Independence Day is near, and if you’ve made it a tradition to grill the same food and spend time with the same people every year, you might find that your memories of celebrations past have started to blend together. If you’re hoping to make this year’s party or barbecue extra special, no need to stress. All you need is a key ingredient: festive attire! In the same way that ugly sweaters can spice up a Christmas get-together, getting decked out in red, white and blue can kick Fourth of July parties up a notch. If you or your guests think it might be too late to put together a patriotic ensemble, we’ve got you covered with these picks:
For men: a patriotic shirt
The great thing about patriotic shirts for men is that they run the gamut from subtle and tasteful to bold and unabashed. We all know that one guy who doesn’t like to get dressed up according to theme for parties, whether it’s your dad, your SO or one of your more reserved friends. Try to get your more reluctant guests to don a simple graphic tee featuring the letters “USA” and maybe a small American flag. For guests who don’t mind getting a little more dressed up, you can suggest wearing American flag dress shirts emblazoned with stars and stripes. Whether they choose to wear their American flag dress shirts ironically or with heartfelt sincerity, these will be sure to make your party extra memorable.
For women: a red and white nautical skirt or dress
With the nautical trend being especially popular this season, your female guests will have no trouble finding a skirt or dress with red and white stripes. All they have to do is add a few pieces to complete the look, such as a lightweight blue scarf or cardigan, a white top, a star-shaped pendant, and blue flats, brogues or boat shoes. They can also go the DIY route and use red and blue fabric paint to transform a pair of plain white Toms into patriotic footwear.
