How to dress for the rain
As winter continues to progress and you begin to bundle up in response to the cold temperatures, it can be hard to know how to layer appropriately so you look good and stay warm. Then you have to include the rain variable into the equation during this season, which adds a whole new level of outfit complications. Depending on where you live and the type of job you have during the week, the rain can either be a huge pain or something you only have to plan for occasionally. For the commuter it means more traffic as cars take the necessary precautions and slow down. For kids it means a puddle jumping adventure. For women and girls’ fashion it means finding the perfect raincoat, umbrella, and waterproof shoes. Here’s a guide for how to best dress for the rain when it comes to women and girls’ wardrobes.
Waterproof is always key when it comes to the rain, but sometimes waterproof can also mean more sporty styles. Fortunately there are plenty of stylish girls raincoats. While black an all around universal great color and very professional, women’s red coats are also fun and still maintain a level of sophistication. Make sure that the coat is longer too so that you protect your legs from getting wet during the windy rain.
The most important element in finding a good umbrella is ensuring that it is durable. There is nothing more frustrating than an unexpected gust of wind turning your umbrella inside out and then leaving you with a broken stretcher. Therefore an umbrella is a valuable investment to make, and you can even find some surprisingly fashionable and really cool umbrellas that will withstand the most tempestuous storms.
You’ll want to keep your feet warm and toasty during the winter season and wet toes typically do not support this goal. Stay away from suede and canvas here because these materials take a long time to dry, and sometimes excess water even ruins the finish. Rain boots are a great option and come in cute designs and patterns. Leather boots are also chic and look good, but make sure that the sole has enough traction because slipping and sliding around can be very dangerous and scary. And don’t overlook the childhood joys of playing in the rain. Even though life has a way of getting complicated as we grow older, it is sometime nice to go back to the simple things in life like jumping around in puddles for hours and hours.
