Easy homemade Christmas décor ideas
Decorating for the holidays is always a fun activity. It is so wonderful to see everyone’s home all lit up at night with beautiful Christmas light decorations. And then of course there are few things more magical than seeing an illuminated and decorated Christmas tree in the window filled with all of your old favorite decorations. It is such a nice annual reminiscing feeling to pull out the boxes that contain all of your favorite Christmas and holiday decorations. And then as the Christmas season progresses you continue to form new memories. One great way to create these new memories is through handmade holiday decorations. Here are a few handmade Christmas décor for the home ideas to either get you started for next year or to keep the holiday spirit present through the New Year.
How to make easy handmade ornaments
The old CD ornament
We all have those old CD’s that are just sitting on the shelf collecting dust and we’ve already added all of the music onto our MP3 players. So what you can do is take those CD’s, cut them into small mishap pieces and then glue them onto a Christmas ball ornament the back shiny side up.
An interpretive pipe cleaner ornament
This is a great Christmas craft project for the kids. Pipe cleaners are so easy to bend into different shapes and sizes, all you have to do is give them the right holiday or Christmas colors and they will be able to create anything. Sometimes it may not always be obvious what they have made, but they’ll have a blast doing it.
How to make simple homemade tree topper
Bows are highly understated decorations during the holiday season so if you want your tree to stand out then you should definitely put a bow on it. You can use any kind of ribbon for this, but if you want it to stand out you might want to think about using a thick wire edge ribbon.
Wire star tree topper
This one involves a trip to the craft store to get the right kind of wire, but from there you have a lot of creative freedom to decorate it how you want. Wrap some lights around the frame for an extra glow. Spray paint it gold and add glitter for some added sparkle. Cut out some lace and wrap it around the frame for some extra elegance. The options are never-ending to adding your own unique touch to the classic 5 point star shape. You can also go for a vintage star tree topper for an old-fashioned feel.
Wire and beads snowflake topper
Similar to the flexible wire used to make the 5 point star, you can also make a snow flake shape to use as your Christmas tree topper. Once you have the desired snowflake shape, then add different beads to the wire before you close off the ends. Clear and white beads give the illusion of sparkly snow, but you can also have plenty of creative freedom to mix it up with different colors how you’d like.
Make sure to have fun with these projects too. They are meant to generate happy new holiday memories, so once you find yourself getting frustrated with a project then it’s time to move on to the next. These DIY ornaments and tree toppers also make for great presents.
