    • ]]>     Faithful readers, you may be wondering why Music and Movie Tuesdays has been moved to Wednesday this week.  To continue the focus on debates and politics, we are posting on the day of the final presidential debate.  To my mind, no TV show, or even movie, captures the excitement (and occasional non-excitement) of campaigns and debates like the West Wing did, so even though West Wing DVDs didn’t come out this week, we’re going to look at them anyway!  (Hope I don’t get in trouble for this)

    The West Wing – The Complete Seventh Season

    The final season of The West Wing was all about the presidential campaign between Matthew Santos (Jimmy Smits) and Arnold Vinick (Alan Alda).  One of my favorite episodes was a live debate they aired between the two actors.  Interesting side note, even though the writers wanted to make Santos look like the hero in the debate, an actual poll was commissioned of viewers, the majority of whom thought Alan Alda out performed Jimmy Smits in the semi-improvised debate format.  If this election has whetted your taste for politics, this is a perfect place to sate your appetite.

    High School Musical 3: Senior Year Premiere Edition

    For those of  you with kids, especially teenage girls (or who ARE teenagers),  High School Musical 3 has been hotly anticipated for years as the first Disney TV movie to make it to the big screen.  It follows the further adventures of Zac Efron and his many friends as they go through senior year.  Since the movie is a musical, the highlights are, of course, the songs.  The movie’s soundtrack has all the top hits, and makes for a great gift for anyone who likes the movies.

    Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (Two-Disc Special Edition)

    One of the greatest series of all time, Indiana Jones is all about action and fun.  This movie, made 19 years after the last one, is kind enough to actually be set 19 years after the last one.  Indiana has moved on from mysticism and fighting Nazis to science fiction and fighting commies.  Shia Lebuff is there for the younger generation, while, in my opinion, it is Cate Blanchett who really steals the show.  This is a great family movie.

    The best show currently on television is The Office, featuring Steve Carrell, Rainn Wilson & John Krazinski. However, with the ongoing writer’s strike, the continuation of this show is in serious jeopardy. It will be a very sad day if the writers and producers of the show decided to discontinue this amazing series. Because of this, I have bought every season of the show on DVD, and I encourage you to do the same. This would make a perfect holiday gift. It’s office humor and constant awkward situations are something that everyone can relate to. The actors and actresses are marvelous in their roles and you’ll find yourself relating to the characters on a deeper, more personal level. The season that are available now on DVD are:

    Season 1
    Season 2
    Season 3

    For those of you who are not familiar with the show, I’ve included some of my favorite scenes for you to enjoy. I really hope you consider investing in these DVD sets that you will watch over and over.
